GOAT Index

About GOAT Index

Every sport has the argument. Jordan or LeBron. Messi or Ronaldo. Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. GOAT Index lets fans settle it with votes instead of volume.

How it works

You never rank a whole list. You see two legends and pick the greater one, then the next pair, and so on. Small, quick decisions are easier to make honestly than ranking 30 names at once.

Every vote counts as a result, like a game. A Bradley–Terry model, the same idea behind chess ratings, turns all those results into one live ranking. Beating a highly rated legend counts for more than beating a long shot.

After 10 votes in a sport you also get your own personal top 10, built only from your choices, which you can compare with the crowd and share.

Fair votes

The players

Each sport has a fixed list of 10 to 30 all-time greats, for men and women, across basketball, football, tennis, the NFL, baseball, ice hockey, boxing, Formula 1 and table tennis. Missing someone? Send a suggestion and the case for them.

Player photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licenses, credited on every page. GOAT Index isn't affiliated with any league, team, player or governing body.
