Privacy policy

GOAT Index is built to work without knowing who you are. There are no accounts, and we never ask for your name or email.

What we store

A random voter ID. Made when you first vote and saved in your browser's local storage, so your votes stay yours when you come back. It isn't linked to your name, email or device identity.
Your votes and GOAT picks, with the time each was cast.
Optional answers about your age group, region and how long you've followed sports, only if you fill in "About you". They let the standings be split by group.
A scrambled network fingerprint for 24 hours. To stop one person from creating hundreds of voter IDs, we store a one-way hash of your IP address mixed with a secret key, so the IP itself can't be read back. After 24 hours it is erased.

Results are only ever published as totals, such as rankings and vote percentages. Individual votes are never shown.

Cookies and tracking

GOAT Index sets no cookies of its own and has no advertising or social media trackers. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, which works without cookies and without following you across sites.

Services we rely on

Cloudflare hosts the site and the database and runs the bot check (Turnstile). Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic browser information to deliver the site and tell people from bots. Cloudflare privacy policy.
Wikimedia Commons serves the player photos directly to your browser, so their servers see your IP address. We send them no information about which page you're on. Wikimedia privacy policy.
Google Fonts serves the typefaces, so Google's servers see your IP address when the page loads. Google privacy policy.

We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.

There are no ads today. If that changes, this page will be updated first, and you'll be asked for consent where the law requires it.

Delete your data

Because we don't know who you are, the only key to your votes is the voter ID in this browser. The button below deletes every vote, GOAT pick and "About you" answer linked to it, for good, and removes the ID from this browser. Your choices then disappear from the rankings within a minute.
