Barry Sanders: the case for the GOAT

    RB · Lions · Born 16 May 1968, Wichita, Kansas, USA · Career 1989–1998

Running back who spent his whole career with the Detroit Lions and retired abruptly at 30, close to the all-time rushing record.

Why Barry Sanders could be the GOAT

Sanders topped 1,000 yards in all ten seasons and ran for over 2,000 in 1997, mostly behind ordinary offensive lines. His jaw-dropping cuts produced highlights no one has matched. Had he not walked away in his prime, he likely would have owned the rushing record, and fans still wonder what might have been.

    Barry Sanders head to head

How the ranking works. Every head-to-head vote is a result, like a game. The standings use a Bradley–Terry model, the same idea behind chess ratings: beating a highly rated legend counts for more than beating a long shot. Ratings are shown on a chess-style scale centred on 1500.

One vote per matchup per person. If you see a pairing again in another session your new answer replaces the old one, so nobody can stuff the ballot by repeating a matchup.

Anonymous by design. No account needed. A quick bot check from Cloudflare runs once when you arrive, and your votes are tied to a random ID kept in your browser, not to your name or email. Privacy policy.
