Serena Williams: the case for the GOAT

    USA · Born 26 September 1981, Saginaw, Michigan, USA · Career 1995–2022

American powerhouse with perhaps the greatest serve in women's tennis and crushing groundstrokes, who dominated across three decades and transformed the sport's image and reach.

    Career highlights

Why Serena Williams could be the GOAT

Serena won 23 majors across 18 years, held all four at once twice, and won her last major at 35 while pregnant. Her power and serve set a new standard, and she beat three generations of rivals. Add four Olympic golds and 14 doubles majors, and no one in the Open Era combines her peak with her longevity.

    Serena Williams head to head

How the ranking works. Every head-to-head vote is a result, like a game. The standings use a Bradley–Terry model, the same idea behind chess ratings: beating a highly rated legend counts for more than beating a long shot. Ratings are shown on a chess-style scale centred on 1500.

One vote per matchup per person. If you see a pairing again in another session your new answer replaces the old one, so nobody can stuff the ballot by repeating a matchup.

Anonymous by design. No account needed. A quick bot check from Cloudflare runs once when you arrive, and your votes are tied to a random ID kept in your browser, not to your name or email. Privacy policy.
